Growing relaxed black hair made simple

My favorite hair dryer: the FHI 2000 pro-nano

In December 2009, I made a decision to grow my hair but I didn’t start my journey until 2010 January. It took me about a year to get my regimen in place. In the process, I tried several products, some which I’ve stuck to and others I dropped off along the way. I learnt so much in the process!
It’s good to have a mentor for your hair growth. Mine was Hairlicious. I watched all her youtube videos and read her regimen to the letter. I followed her principles and used as many of her products that I could find. I also discovered myself in the process. That’s really important: discovering what works for YOU!  Some products that work for you might not work for me and vice versa. The most important thing is to get the basic hair principles and stick to them.
  1. Use a mild protein conditioner not more than once a week. Depending on your hair, you might want to use it once a month or twice a month or every week.
  2. Deep condition your hair at least once a week.
  3. Moisturize with a moisturizer as often as possible: it might even be twice a day depending on your hair.
  4. Seal your moisturizer with an oil of your choice every time you moisturize your hair.
  5. Trim your ends lightly every 8-12 weeks.
  6. Protect your ends as much as possible. You can bun it while you’re just starting out (if it’s long enough for that). However,as your hair gets longer, there are so many cool hair styles to protect your ends as I’m learning every day!
  7. Avoid direct heat to your hair as much as possible. Roller sets or wet wraps are better. If you must, use a tourmaline/titanium ceramic iron and hair dryer.
  8. Wash your hair not more than once a week. If you want to wash your hair more than once a week, do a co-wash with a simple conditioner.
Anyway, I just wanted to go over again the basic principles that got my hair where it is today! Hope I’ve been of help to someone. If you have any questions, leave a comment or send me an e-mail on dr_fomsky@thesizzlingmommy.com

First things first. What relaxer do you use? This is so important. The next important thing is your conditioner. I recommend you steam your hair at least twice a week: once with Organic Root stimulator replenishing conditioner or mayonnaise. . ON your second steaming day,use a good moisturizing conditioner. Try Dark and Lovely Cholesterol. I think it's nice. For more details, go through my other posts or send me an email. on dr_fomsky@thesizzlingmommy.com

Hi, am so glad to see your acticles on hair, i have a problem with my hair, the front hair and the sides does not grow i dont know what to do about it.

First and foremost, stop fixing weaveons and braids if you already are. You can massage either rosemary oil or peppermint oil into your scalp mixed with avocado oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, etc. You can also use castor oil, coconut oil, aloevera, vitamin E, Miconazole Nitrate, Sulfur 8, Megatek. If it doesn't respond, you may need to try something stronger like Rogaine for women. Check Medplus or Healthplus pharmacies.

For your front hair to grow quickly, you need to use an essential oil to massage into your hairline. Where do you live? I use Beautiful Beginnings relaxer for fine hair so I think it’s good..There are so many conditioners out there… Please read Suggestions for protein and moisturizing conditioners
I’m not too sure I know what you mean when you say hair cream. Is it something to apply to your hair everyday? Or something like Blue Magic or Soul mate?

Dr Fomsky i need your help concerning my hair,my hair is no longer growing and its now very light and breaking.
it has been like this for a while now and i have tried all i could to make it grow back but nothing seems to help. I cant do without fixing on it because there’s no way i am leaving my hair and taking it to the office
i had no choice than to fix or braid my hair cos my hair is just not it.its so light, short, falls off and my front hair is really breaking.i have stopped applying heat as someone advised and i have tried a lot of products i read on you-tube but nothing seems to be working.
i would like you to help me by telling me what to do and what to use to help with the hair growth.
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Thanks
