Healthy hair bootcamp 2012

Hi everyone.. last year, I tried to organize a Healthy hair bootcamp but didn’t complete it because I got hit with a surprise event (finding out I was pregnant)…. that’s a story for another day. Anyways, I would like to organize a healthy hair bootcamp 2012.

It’s going  to run for 3 months, from April 1st till June 30th. The rules for the bootcamp are pretty simple:

  1. No direct heat during the period: only airdrying or rollersets. I’ll be posting up a video on how I airdry very soon. I’ll also be posting on different hairstyles you can do on airdried hair.
  2. Doing a deep condition at least once a week.
  3. Include a protein conditioner and a ceramide-containing product in your regimen.
  4. Moisturizing and sealing at least once a DAY.

If you’re interested, indicate your interest and at the beginning of the challenge, don’t forget to take a picture of your hair. To prepare us for the challenge, I’ll compile all the posts that I feel are relevant onto a special page just for the challenge so you can easily reference them. So, see you guys in April!

  1. I would love to participate, but I’m already planning to use direct heat in May. Sounds like a great challenge.

  2. I’m interested! This works hand in hand with my Rollersetting Challenge, so I will totally do it! I won’t have an “official” starting picture as far as length, but I can do a rollerwrap and that will give a general idea of the length and definitely the health of my hair. I’m trying to avoid doing any official length checks until June.

It’s true it goes hand in hand with your rollerset challenge (which I’m participating in btw). Doing a rollerwrap works just fine: the goal of this challenge is for healthy air more than it is for longer hair. Tk care 🙂

  3. LaQT/ Ty says:

I’m in. I’m always interested in a social challenge to help motivate myself anf others to maintain healthy hair. I should have another length check by then. Keep us updated!

Hey Dr Ufuoma, let me first say that although i dont comment often and although i dont always follow all u write, i am an avid follower of your blog. Wish i had more will power to take better care of my hair. I would LOVE to be a part of the challenge.

  5. Theodora Ikem says:

count me in…….anything that will help me reach Apl by december 2012 is welcome

  6. Juliet says:

Am in but what about weaving ur hair instead of using rollers during the period.

    • Dr_fomsky says:

Weaving your hair doesn’t quite fit the criteria dear because it means you won’t be directly caring for your hair. The challenge is about practicing caring for yor hair to see if it becomes healthier.

  7. Ifai says:

    Count me in.

  8. Ifai says:

Hi doc, still on standby for the styles for airdried hair. styling is my weakest point. I can’t seem to get my rollersets to be as smooth as those of hair stylists.

    • Dr_fomsky says:

Ifai, I’ve missed your comments 🙂 . Where have you been? I’ll post up a few videos and pics next week by God’s grace

      • Ifai says:

I’ve been quite busy with work + family but I’ll be around more often now. Do we need to send the pics at the beginning of the bootcamp to you? I forgot and braided my hair and will loosen the braids on or b/4 13th April. Hope it’s not too late then.

        • Dr_fomsky says:

          No.. off course not

          • Ifai says:

Hope you got the pic I sent to your email. I’m really enjoying this bootcamp. I have religiously kept to the requirements and I just love how my hair feels/looks/behaves. I never knew one can wash and just pack/bun black hair and it will be very neat.

I use the pure peanut oil to pre-poo as you advised, then sometimes I add a protein conditioner (Organics Hair Mayonnaise) at the pre-poo stage (yes, I’m copying you, my teacher). I deep condition with the Lustrasilk Cholesterol which contains ceramides also as it has soyabean oil, peanut oil and safflower oil! I sometimes DC with ORS replenishing conditioner (hope that’s the name) when I don’t use the protein conditioner at the pre-poo stage. I roller set once in a while but airdry more often. Moisturing and sealing at least once a day (mostly in the morning). I used your shea butter and olive oil recipe to make my sealing butter. Hope I’m on track. I’ve noticed that there’s barely any breakage, though I have lots of shed hair. Even my front hairline that had slight patches are filling up. I also trimmed my ends for a neater look. Keep up the good work.

I wish I could co-wash during the week but not possible. Lots of reading for professional exams and masters so once a week wash will ‘do’ for now.

          • Dr_fomsky says:

Yes my dear I got the pic. I’m glad to know you have virtually no breakage. You are on the right track…I’m so glad for you 😛 . As for the shed hair, try soaking some tea bags in warm water for like an hour and use to rinse your hair before deep conditioning. You should also look for a hair vitamin containing MSM that would prolong your hair’s growth phase. Take care dear! Big hugs!! 😛

  9. Ifai says:

Thanks for the advice on the shedding. Will check the pharmacy for the hair vitamins. The tea aspect should be very easy to incorporate into my schedule.

I just discovered your site and you’ve made a hair care believer out of me. I’m impressed enough so start out a boot camp on my own. I realise that I’ve missed the April to June boot camp. I’ll just follow the rules stated on my own and let you know, periodically, how I fare. I dint know till I started reading some of your articles how tired I was of having my hair mishandled at hair saloons. Thank you so much in advance :).
