PRODUCTS I REDISCOVERED THIS MARCH

  • Motions triple action leave-in conditioner. I used it after washing my hair and then I airdried. It left my hair feeling pretty soft. It is also silicone-free so if you’re someone that doesn’t like silicones, you might like this. I think it’ll also make for a good moisturizer.

  • Hair one Tea Tree Cleansing Conditioner: This used to be my main hair cleanser last year but I haven’t been using it this year because I’ve been using loads of oils and silicone-containing products on my hair recently and I felt that this product wouldn’t be sufficient to cleanse my hair. I have at least 4 bottles of this product at home and I was wondering what to do with it. While I was playing with the bottle, I discovered that I could also use it as a deep conditioner. I tried it and it worked: I applied it, left it overnight and rinsed my hair out the following morning. My only beef with it is that it doesn’t give much slip. I don’t mind though because I have great leave-ins. Now, I use it as a mid-week deep conditioner between wash days, alternating with my Kenra moisturizing conditioner.
  • Keracare foam wrap set lotion: This is ‘da bomb’ product for a great rollerset! I’ve even used it to airdry my flexirod set. OMG! It leaves your hair soft, bouncy with SPECTACULAR MOVEMENT. The next time I use it, I will make a video just to show you how it makes my hair move!!

After my rollerset with my newly beloved Keracare foam wrap set lotion, I needed products that wouldn’t weigh down my set. I decided to try Keracare conditioning cream hair dress for my moisturizer and jojoba oil as a sealing oil since it’s very light. It’s worked out great: I just apply a few drops of the jojoba oil and my shine is back on!!

  • Jojoba oil: This is a very light oil and is said to be the oil closest in structure to sebum. Another way I use it is to mix it with amla oil and castor oil to make a scalp oil.
  • Keracare conditioning cream hairdress: It comes in a jar and although it’s oil-based, I use it as a moisturizer because its first ingredient is water. This product claims to help retain hair movement. I take a small amount and rub it between my palms and run my fingers through my hair to apply it (the same way I apply my S curl activator in THIS VIDEO). It’s actually lived up to its promise and hasn’t frizzed my hair out yet! I do have some qualms about this product though: its smell is awful and although I think it’s good for rollerset or flat-ironed hair, I wouldn’t use it on my airdried hair because it doesn’t feel very moisturizing.

Just to let you know I was able to locate the Sofo pharmacy in Port Harcourt. Have you used lottabody as a setting lotion for your rollersets? Was it as effective as the Keracare foam wrap you talked about here? I understand serums can be used for rollersets, how? I have a full bottle at home and i feel it’s too sticky. what can i use it for pls? i bought it for my weave which i hardly fix anyway.

I’ve checked the list and the item I can easily lay my hands on is the egg yolk (16% ceramide). I don’t know if I can find pure peanut oil, soyabean or seasame seed in the supermarket. As for the other oils at the top of the list, haven’t seen them around at all. I’ll check but in the interim, can egg yolk be used weekly. Does it contain protein or is it the egg white that contains protein? How do you think I can incorporate egg yolk into my hair care? At least the 16% it offers and the 10% from my old faithful olive oil should suffice, no?

    • Dr_fomsky says:

I’m sure you can get your hands on peanut oil(otherwise called groundnut oil). I think that would be better cos it has about 32% content. Egg yolk also contains protein although not as much as the egg white. You can incorporate it into your regimen by using once in 2 weeks by mixing into your pre-shampoo conditioner. Take care Ifai and good luck 😉

      • Ifai says:

Doc, most of our groundnut oil are actually made from palm oil. I had to go check the bottle of King’s oil I use and the ingredient is super refined palm oil. There are pure peanut/groundnut oil but they are not so commonly available. If the Kings vegetable oil will suffice, no probs. Better for me sef as e full for kitchen.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify/reply me comments. I appreciate it.

        • Dr_fomsky says:

Grand groundnut oil is pure. I know I used to use it when I was in PH way back. Rather than use Kings, look for soybean or corn oil.

          • Ifai says:

Yes, you are right. Grand has pure groundnut oil and even Soyabean oil which I have even used before! Thanks. I will search for them. It will even be less messier than egg yolks. I presume we can use the oils as pre-poo with conditioner?

I recently bought Lustrasilk Tea Tree Cholesterol for my deep conditioning. They claim it contains soyabean oil, safflower oil, peanut oil. But, it says leave for 2 – 3 mins!!! Will this suffice for DC? I’ve read your write-up on Deep conditioning.

          • Dr_fomsky says:

Yes those oils will def be less messy than egg yolk 😛 Yes you can use them as your prepoo. Don’t cut your regular olive oil from your hair too: it serves its own purpose. I haven’t used Lustrasilk tea tree cholesterol but since it contains safflower oil, I’m sure it’s okay. I know it says 2-3 minutes but there are exceptions to every rule: it also depends on the constituent ingredients. Does it have any stearyl or cetyl alcohol? Take care

  3. Ifai says:

it contains cetearyl alcohol. i guess they are the same.
