Hair diary for the week ending 1st September 2012

I don’t have a perfect regimen but I’m still trying to find a suitable one. I started this hair diary so that you would see what I do to my hair everyday. You will also get to see the ups and downs of my hair journey and have a peek into how ‘hairly obssessed’ I can be sometimes!

Sunday morning

Simply folded my ends upwards, tucked them in and used bobby pins to secure them. To accessorize, I wore a gold hair clip on the side. To check out what I did on Saturday night, you can read my hair diary for the week ending 25th August 2012.

Sunday night

I lightly spritz my hair with my spray-on moisturizer. Next, I sectioned my hair into two, fingercombed and rolled the ends. For my spray-on moisturizer, I mixed a few drops of my sealing oil with a bottle of rose water. This is now my spray-on moisturizer for days I want light moisturizationThe reason I now roll my ends at night is because I find that this keeps my ends smooth and reduces breakage.

Monday morning

Finger combed my hair with my hands lubricated with GVP silk remedy. Did a simple bun. For extra shine, I sprayed some Keracare Silken Seal Liquid Sheen on my hair.

Monday night

  • Felt like washing my hair. I LOVE to wash my hair!
  • I did a prepoo with Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my hair and Tropic Isle Living Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil on my scalp.
  • Washed my hair in 4 sections with Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo
  • Decided to test a theory I had in my head: I deep conditioned the right side with Silk elements Kera minerals deep conditioner and Ion Swimmer’s conditioner on the left side. The Ion conditioner has panthenol while the Silk elements conditioner does not. Panthenol is believed to add volume to the hair so I wanted to see which of the conditioners would give me more volume. To be honest, I didn’t really notice any difference!
  • When I was out of the shower, I detangled in small sections. I sprayed Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer to each section and then lightly combed through each section.

  • Next, I divided my hair into two big sections, held them in a ponytail and rolled the ends.
  • Tied my satin scarf and went to bed.

Tuesday morning

My hair was not dry so I blow dried it. I hated how my ends turned out: My hair was not smooth as I like it to be. I just did a low bun and I was off.

Tuesday evening

Did some exercise: when I exercise, I usually tie my silk scarf to keep down my edges and prevent frizz.

I had just finished working out but my hair remained smooth because I had tied it down with my scarf!

Tuesday night

  • Lightly spritz hair my hair with my rosewater spray-on moisturizer.
  • Sectioned hair in 3. Held each section with a scrunchie, finger combed and rolled the ends, tied my silk scarf. Went to bed.

Wednesday morning

Finger combed my hair with my hands lubricated with GVP silk remedy. Did a simple low bun.

Wednesday night

  • I sectioned my hair into three: two in front and one at the back.
  • For the back section, I first spritz my hair with my rose water mix, then applied S-Curl Moisturizer and followed up with Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer.
  • However, I noticed that my hair was breaking when I fingercombed. I decided that maybe the moisture was too much.
  • For the other two sections, I only mist my hair lightly with my rosewater mix and applied Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer
    on top of this.
  • I paid special attention to my edges by spraying some of the rosewater mix there and rubbing in a few drops of Jamaican Black Castor Oil .
  • Next, I applied Jamaican Black Castor Oil  to the rest of my scalp. I was especially careful not to apply it to my hair because I didn’t want my hair to be weighed down. Wore my satin scarf and went to bed.

Thursday morning

I protect my ends by bunning my hair 90% of the time  so I decided to let it loose today. I decided to do a low ponytail: it had been a while since I did a ponytail!

Thursday night.

Moisturized lightly and did a braid out.

Friday morning

The braid out didn’t come out the way I envisioned it!

Friday night

I did an overnight prepoo with my pre-poo mix (coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil and shea oil).

Saturday morning

  • I washed my hair with Ion Swimmer’s shampoo [I use this shampoo because the water I have at home has chlorine in it]
  • Followed this with Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo.
  • Deep conditioned with KeraPRO Restorative Treatment for Dry to Very Dry Hair. I lightly detangled in the shower with my wide-tooth comb. This conditioner does give good slip.
  • When I came out of the shower, I detangled my hair in tiny sections using my wide-tooth comb.
  • When I was done detangling, I sprayed some Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer and then sectioned my hair into 3. Combed each section again.
  • Secured each section with a scrunchie and rolled the ends. Tied my satin scarf and went about my day. I didn’t go out on Saturday so I left my hair this way till the next day.

Sunday morning.

My hair came out frizzy and my hair strands were sticking together. This was strange to me because when I do the ponytail -scrunchie-roller airdrying method I’ve been doing recently, my hair always comes out smooth.

There was also an obvious difference in texture between the texlaxed roots and the more processed ends. Over the last few weeks that I have been doing my hair, I haven’t really noticed this difference. The only new product I used during this wash was the KeraPRO so I think this might be the cause.  After rinsing out the KeraPRO, I had noticed that my roots didn’t look smooth but I thought that tying my hair down with a satin scarf would do the trick. Apparently, it didn’t. It comes as a surprise to me though because I’ve used KeraPRO several times in the past but it didn’t leave my hair looking this way. I’ll try it again and see where I went wrong!!

Anyways, that’s about it. See you next week!
