What’s up people? I’m back! And a wash day update!

Hello everyone. In my last post, I told you guys that I was going to write an exam. I travelled to Ibadan to write it (this city is about 2 hours drive from Lagos where I live). I’m back!! Thanks to all the people who wished me success. For all the people who didn’t, face the naughty corner!

The exam is sort of the equivalent of the Americans call USMLE. When I pass it, I can finally start my residency (or specialization as some other people call it). I must tell you that this was the most difficult exam I’ve ever written: I feel like I was fighting for my life while I was in the exam hall.

I was so busy reading this past week that it took me two days from start to finish to wash my hair! On Sunday afternoon, I decided to do the Greenhouse effect.

  1. I applied Tropic Isle Living Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil to my scalp and Jamaican Coconut Black Castor Oil to my strands. I left this in till the following morning.
  2. On Monday morning, I washed my hair with Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo (that bottle is really small!!).
  3. Next, I applied Silk Elements Kera minerals deep conditioner. I usually apply a protein conditioner after shampooing but I forgot to do that. I covered my hair with a black plastic bag (I’m tired of wasting shower caps!). I left the Kera Minerals conditioner in till later at night because I couldn’t see myself going back into the shower to rinse it off. I wore a black beret on top of the plastic bag and went about my day.
  4. At night, I rinsed out the conditioner, sprayed some diluted Apple Cider Vinegar. Rinsed this out and removed the excess water using a t-shirt.
  5. For my leave-ins, I applied Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer first. This is a protein leave-in conditioner and I used this because I had forgotten to use my protein conditioner after shampooing: I always want a bit of protein on wash days.
  6. Next,  I used a bit of the Silk Elements Kera minerals deep conditioner as my leave-in conditioner (yeah I know it’s a deep conditioner but I love it so much!)  On top of this, I applied GVP silk remedy and Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Food. (I always use small quantities of these: I find that when I use serums and oils to air dry, my hair usually comes out feeling soft. When I don’t, my hair feels crunchy!)

I love this stuff: it’s like your regular hair grease but free of  mineral oil and petroluem!

  7. I divided my hair into two sections: front and back. Twisted each section and went to bed.
  8. On Tuesday morning, I detangled  in sections with my new Hercules Sageman Magic Star Jumbo Rake comb (finally gave in… Ebony thanks to you). I didn’t detangle my hair when it was dripping wet because I wanted to compare which is better: detangling dripping wet hair vs detangling semi-wet hair. My opinion is this: your hair is most vulnerable to breakage when it is dripping wet. Detangling your hair when it’s about 50-80% dry might be a bit safer. On the other hand, I also think that detangling hair that is 100% dry is not the best! If you ask me, it’s better wet than dry! The only catch with detangling semi-wet hair is that it doesn’t come out as smooth as when you detangle it wet. LEARN HOW I AIRDRY BY CLICKING HERE.

  9. Afterwards, I retwisted my ends and that was my style for the day. I’ve discovered that when you air dry, it’s a good idea to give your ends some structure to dry with. What I mean by this is it’s better to either roll your ends, braid them or twist them. That way, there’s less tangling and they remain smooth leading to less breakage.
  10. The following day, I undid the twisted ends and that’s it.
How was your wash day? Have you ever had protracted wash days like this before? Why?

I always do! Sometimes i pre-poo overnight, or DC overnight, one day i DC’ed the night before and carried it for the whole day the next day! I guess the reason is because i just want to get the maximum benefit of my deep conditioner *covering face. I only do my wash in a day during the week because of time…
On the side. How do you manage being 14 weeks post! I am just 10 weeks post and my undergrowth is unbearable! I’m wearing a wig for the next 2 weeks ’cause i plan to stretch for 12 weeks…..but its not so easy. Thank the Lord for S-curl! This product works wonders for my undergrowth……..

No need to cover your face… many people would love to leave their deep conditioner for that long but for time.
😛 How do I manage with my new growth at 14 weeks? My dear, I didn’t plan it: it just happened. At this rate, I will have to go an extra week because I am travelling this weekend and since I have to prep with Aphogee 2-step protein before relaxing, it will have to be when I get back.
I’ve managed it by deep conditioning with my newly found darling deep conditioner Silk Elements Kera Minerals Deep conditioner and co-washing 2 to 3 times a week with Salon selectives S conditioner.
