How to use Aphogee Two step treatment

Good morning everyone. In my last post, I showed you guys how overprocessed my hair was after relaxing it and I was pretty uspet about it! I decided that I needed some heavy duty protein treatment. This post is basically about how to use Aphogee two step treatment to treat damaged or overprocessed hair.

The ingredients  in Aphogee two step protein treatment are as follows: Deionized Water, Hydrolyzed Animal Protein, Magnesium Sulfate, Citric Acid, Ethylene Urea, Dimethylol Urea, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Magnesium Carbonate, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance.

When to use Aphogee 2-step protein treatment

  1. A few days to a week before you relax your hair. When you relax your hair, the relaxer breaks down protein bonds in your hair. Using Aphogee 2-step treatment just before your relax your hair helps to enrich your hair with protein and minimise the potential damage from relaxers. Many people use this treatment for this purpose.
  2. Every 6 weeks as a way to incorporate protein conditioners into your hair care regimen. As it is a very strong treatment, it is advised that you use it at intervals of not less than 6 weeks.
  3. On damaged hair/a few days after relaxing your hair. This is what I did. Wait at least 24 hours after relaxing before using Aphogee 2-step.

In the past, I have not had good experience using this Aphogee two step protein treatment cos’ I was left with hair that felt so hard, brittle and difficult to comb. This time, I armed myself with conditioners that I knew would do the job of softening my hair after the treatment.

These are the steps you should follow when doing an Aphogee 2-step protein treatment (for whatever reason you choose):

  1. First clarify your hair. I didn’t bother clarifying because I had washed my hair very well on my relaxer day which was just a few days before this treatment.
  2. It’s watery and can get messy. Put it in a spray bottle if you have one. if you have any old bottle of detangling spray, you could use this. Spray it generously all over your hair.
  3. Comb through your hair from the roots upwards (lightly) to spread the treatment.
  4. When it dries, it can get hard and stick to anything it dries on. If your hair is longer than armpit length, you might want to just tie a towel. Otherwise, it will stick to your blouse when it is dry.
  5. Sit underneath a dryer. If you don’t have one, use a blow dryer but be careful not to manipulate your hair as it dries. If you don’t have any dryer at all, go about your day until it dries.how to use aphogee two step sitting under my dryer
  6. When it dries, stand underneath the shower allowing the water to just run through your hair. Don’t manipulate your hair until you feel it soften up.
  7. After you have rinsed it off completely, you can now apply Aphogee balancing moisturizer. I personally don’t think that this is good enough to reverse the hardness from the Two-step treatment. If you don’t have the balancing moisturizer, Roux Porosity Control Conditioner (old version) is a good alternative. I applied Roux Porosity Control Conditioner to my hair for about 3 minutes before rinsing it off. Take note that he new version has some protein in it.
  8. You can proceed to style your hair if you wish. However, I advise that you use a very good moisturizing conditioner to get your hair back to a soft state. I used Silk Dreams Avocado pudding.
  9. Dry your hair as you normally would!

My hair still needs a lot of nursing but it looks a little better!

I intend to do another treatment in 6 weeks and stretch the time between my relaxers to 12 this time! Take care everyone.

Hi, pls what is the difference btw Aphogee 2 step Protein treatment and Aphogee 2 min Keratin Treatment? I have the Aphogee 2 min keratin treatment. Can I use it in place of the protein treatment? Thanks

    • Dr_fomsky says:

Mina dear, there are several differences between 2 step and 2-minute. The 2 minute protein conditioner is a lighter treatment than the 2-step. You can use the 2-minute conditioner every week whereas you can use the 2-step not more than once every 6 weeks. However, you can also use the 2-minute to treat your hair because it contains proteins. Apply it and sit under a dryer for at least 15 minutes for better penetration. Tk care!

Hi, I’m a little confused about the Apoghee 2 Step Treatment. I assumed that it was to be applied 3-4 weeks AFTER a relaxer. Supposedly, this stretches your relaxer. Have you ever heard of this?

  3. mochamadness says:

Thanx for the info and link. I’ll try using the 2 Step Treatment one week before my relaxer and see how it works out. Will definitely post my results.

BTW, I use the ORS Replenishing Conditioner after using the Apoghee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor on mine and my granddaughter’s hair. Love the way it moisturizes.

The Motions CPR Reconstructor is very conditioning when used 1-2 days a week as a no-poo treatment.

Do I have to use the aphogee moisturizing after aphogee 2 step protein treatment ?

    • Dr_fomsky says:

No you don’t have to use the Aphogee balancing moisturiser if you don’t want to. I think any good moisturising conditioner that is capable of really softening the hair should do.

  5. Shelly says:

Hello hope all is well I was just wondering how long after using Aphogee treatment can you relax your hair and how can I get my hair to grow back and be healthy…

    • Dr_fomsky says:

You can relax your hair as soon as 4 days. Getting your hair to grow back and healthy is a process. As much as possible, don’t flat iron or blow dry your hair. Roller setting or air drying are better options. Deep condition your hair 2 – 4 times a month. If possible, every week. Don’t use small teeth combs on your hair. Protect your ends and moisturize your hair as often as is needed. Over time, you will see an improvement in your hair.

Is this safe for kids hair

I have had to research the ingredients individually. Deionized Water, Hydrolyzed Animal Protein, Magnesium Sulfate, Citric Acid, Ethylene Urea, Dimethylol Urea, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Magnesium Carbonate, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance.

Ethylene Urea and DMDM Hydantoin are both formaldehyde releasers. They are believed to be allergens and immunotoxicants. I didn’t know about this prior to now but I advise you use a more natural protein conditioner except the child’s hair is extremely damaged.

I have always been very protective over my hair – one day, I decided to get it relaxed, just to see and of course my hair immediately started thinning out at the front. My hairdresser suggested the Shielo Shine Restoration Oil and having read some reviews I decided to try it.

I must say, having used the Shielo Shine oil for only 2-3 days twice a day, the hair started growing back immediately, so much so that my mother even noticed it. Now it has been a couple of weeks, and my hair is longer than it was before. And its super shiney. ..it should work for your damage as well

Can I use the balancing moisturizer that comes with the 2 step and a deep conditioner or sub the deep conditioner for the balancing one

  10. Bummie says:

Hello Dr Fomsky. Just to be sure. Is it okay to use cold water to rinse off the treatment? Also, can the AUSSIE SMOOTH conditioner replace the balancing conditioner? Finally, for the deep condition treatmeant., should it be protein or moisture based. Thank you.

    • Dr Fomsky says:

Hi Bummie. I believe if should be ok to use cold water to rinse off the treatment. And I also think Aussie moist can be used in addition to the balancing treatment i.e. after the balancing. Lastly, the deep conditioning treatment should be moisture based.

  11. Bummie says:

Thank you. I mixed the Aussie with roux porosity conditioner. Went further to deep condition with cream of nature argan oil intensive treatment. The breakage stopped almost immediately. So happy with the results

Is the first step applied on towel dried hair or completely dry hair?
