Hair diary – 20th July 2014

I want to continue with my weekly hair diaries so that you can have an idea of what I do with my hair daily/weekly.
Today, I washed my hair.
1. I applied coconut oil to my hair and essential oils to my scalp.
2. Next, I mixed Queen Helene Cholesterol conditioner with rhassoul clay and applied to my hair.
Wore my heating cap and left this on for about an hour. My hair felt very conditioned when I took off my plastic bag. I am going to try mixing it with amla, brahmi henna next time. My standing hair dryer is no longer producing hot air and I am so sad because I use it both for deep conditioning and drying my hair. I do have a standing steamer but I’ve never used it!! Now, I have to bring it out.
3. Washed my hair with my conditioning cleanser.
4. Deep conditioned with my conditioning concoction. Covered my hair with a plastic bag, then a scarf and a hat and went to church! When I came back from church, I wore my heating cap and took a nap. When I rinsed off, my hair felt really nice: soft but strong. I will do a separate post soon on my deep conditioning mix.
5. Applied my Tropic Isle Living Argan oil serum. Finger detangled my hair and put my hair into 3 twists. Covered my hair with a t-shirt for about an hour.
6. I applied my leave-in conditioning mix in sections. I’ll also do a post on this soon. Detangled with my wide-tooth comb and then a medium-tooth comb. Put my hair in bantu knots and that’s it for today!!

Back story behind my Queen Helene conditioner:
I just relaxed my hair three days ago. (Update coming soon). I needed to treat my hair with some good stuff and I know that cholesterol is a lipid that is lost in chemically treated hair. This conditioner has two ingredients that I wasn’t particularly happy with: Sodium Lauryl sulfate and mineral oil. I cant remember the last time I used mineral oil on my hair and I did a lot of reading product reviews before I decided to use it. I also put a post on my instagram page asking for people’s opinions.

I mixed the Queen Helene conditioner with rhasssoul clay because rhassoul has cleansing and conditioning properties so I felt that even if the conditioner was going to damage my hair, the rhassoul clay would help to condition my hair and remove the mineral oil. 🙂
