Wash day – tried blow drying again

  • Applied Ouidad’s Salon Series OMEGA-3 Replenishing Hair Treatment to my hair. It contains a lipid called 18-MEA. Wore my heating cap for 30 minutes while I played with my phone. 😛
  • Applied Strong Roots Pimento oil to my scalp.
  • I mixed some warmed coconut oil with alma and brahmi powders. I was surprised that the powders actually mixed quite well with the oil. I was expecting it to be more seedy but I think it’s better than when I mix with water alone. Allowed the oil-powder mix cool a little. Added some full cream plain yoghurt to this mixture, whisked and then applied to my hair. This mix had the consistency of a really thick conditioner and wasn’t runny. Wore my heating cap for about 30 minutes. While I was mixing my amla and brahmi powders, I was thinking to myself that someone out there could just blending sand and calling them ayurvedic powders. LOL. Yoghurt is a protein and this conditioner mix leaves the hair feeling strong but nice.

  • Washed my hair with my cleansing conditioner mix (conditioner + shampoo + tea). I felt that my hair needed some clarifying so I used a regular Pantene shampoo. It lathered very well in spite of the additional conditioner. After rinsing out the shampoo, I applied some more conditioner to make the hair soft and rinsed it out after 3 minutes.
  • Applied Tropic Isle Living Hair Therapy Oil to my scalp after rinsing out my hair.
  • Mixed together Hairveda Sitrinillah deep conditioner + Mill Creek Botanicals Henna conditioner, Mill Creek Botanicals Biotin conditioner + Franck Provost repair conditioner + aloe vera juice concentrate + essential oils {of oregano, peppermint, cedarwood, thyme, rosemary, lavender} + rice bran oil + hempseed oil + avocado oil + olive oil + coconut oil. Whisked them altogether to make a smooth mixture. Applied to my hair. Covered my hair with a 2 plastic bags. Wore my heating cap. Put on my satin bonnet. Covered my pillow with a towel. Went to bed. Took off the heating cap in the middle of the night. In the morning, my towel was a bit damp but nothing too bad.
  • Rinsed off the conditioner while taking my shower in the morning.
  • Squeezed out the excess water from my hair. Applied some argan oil to seal in the moisture. My leave-in was Pura body naturals Sapote hair lotion.
  • Blow dried my hair with moderate heat using a brush-tension method. I first saw the video on Today’s Naira blog. I used moderate heat to dry each section a little and finished up with cool air. There was a little breakage and shedding but by the time I was done picking up all the hair, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was.  I oiled my scalp with Lavender Jamaican black castor oil.

  • All in all, I like the technique. It left my soft and smooth but it takes me a long time to finish. I think I still prefer the way my hair feels when I do a braid out. As much as I like it, I’ll not be doing this every week. I also spent more time drying each section so it was not as puffy as last week. I think the Pura body naturals Sapote hair lotion might have been a better choice than the Hairveda Red Satin moisturizer I used last week.

I deep condition before I shampoo for several reasons. Firstly, I like to mix in coconut oil because it helps to prevent damage that occurs when you wet your hair (hygral fatigue). Secondly, I condition before I shampoo to reduce the drying effects of shampoo.
I use a lot of products because I am yet to find one which contains all the ingredients I look for in a conditioner and these different products contain. These ingredients are as follows :
Ayurvedic herbs – aid hair growth
18 MEA, ceramides and cholesterol – naturally occurring lipids in hair.
      Keratin
      Collagen
Avocado, olive and coconut oil – absorbed by hair.
Essential oils – aid hair growth
      Castor oil – thicker hair
Thank you for the compliments…my hair has grown quite a bit…..I do take supplements when I remember..I have one bottle of Hairfinity that I’ve been taking this year but I’m yet to finish it.

Joy my longtime friend!!! Thanks for the compliments on my hair. How are you? How are you enjoying your natural hair? Yes I am still in France. I order a lot of products from the U.S. Sorry to hear about being duped.

Please how do you know your hair needs clarifying?

    • Dr_fomsky says:

There are several ways I know my hair needs clarifying. One: it no longer responds to trusted products. It stays dry no matter how much I condition it. Two: my strands feel coated even after a wash day.
