Hair product haul – Shea Moisture Jamaican black castor oil masque & leave-in conditioner

Hi guys. I self-relaxed my hair a week ago (update coming soon) and I used Cantu shea butter leave-in before relaxing my hair (to moisturize my hair) and also afterwards (as a leave-in) and I do like it because it does make the hair soft even though it is a protein leave-in. However, I have two qualms with it. One, it contains silicones which can cause product buildup. Two, it contains mineral oil which can reduce the hair’s ability to absorb moisture. I can’t see myself using it weekly for those two reasons so I decided to look for a protein leave-in conditioner which is mineral oil-free and silicone-free.

Anyways, I discovered that the new Shea Moisture Jamaican black castor oil leave-in has proteins (Hydrolyzed keratin, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3) so I ordered one jar. In the process, I added the masque from the same collection to my cart. (It also has protein and you know how I looove my protein conditioners!). I’ll use them this weekend and let you know my impressions.

*On a side note, I didn’t see Jamaican black castor oil on the ingredient list of the masque and the leave-in conditioner….just regular castor oil. Or maybe they just wanted to use the regular castor oil as the nomenclature in the ingredient list.*

I also decided to try out Mane ‘n Tail detangler and I posted a picture of it on my instagram page and I got a few comments about it. The general impression I have of it is that it is great as a pre-wash detangler and not as a post-wash leave-in detangler because it can leave the hair feeling coated. I guess that’s because it contains silicones. These are the ingredients of the Mane ‘n Tail detangler:
Water/aqua/eau, dimethicone, PEG 7 amodimethicone, equisetum arvense (horsetail) leaf extract, larrea divaricata (chaparral) extract, tussilago farfara (colts foot) flower extract, aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut) seed extract, spiraea ulmaria (meadowsweet) flower extract, trifolium pratense (clover) flower extract, fragrance (parfum), methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone, trideceth-6, hydroxycitronella, buthylphenyl methylpropional, limonene, linalool, alpha-isomethyl ionone.
