Moisturizing – sealing oil mix

Hi peeps. Happy mother’s day (in arrears) to all my readers in Nigeria and UK. Being a mom is the most challenging yet most fulfilling job in my opinion. How did you spend your day? I took my kids to visit family.

Anyways, time for some hair talk!

If you have been reading my blog for a little while, you might know by now that I love using argan oil to seal my hair. A few drops goes a long way to make my soft and shiny all day. I do have a feeling that it might have humectant characteristics because when I apply it to my hair, my hair stays moist all day.

As much as I like the super-absorbent coconut oil for a prepoo, I don’t like to use it everyday because it makes my hair feel crunchy. Does this happen with you? Or is it just me?

Castor oil is wonderful for locking in moisture but it is way TOO thick to use on its own.

So, why am I saying all this?
I mixed these 3 oils for the ultimate ‘moisturizing’ oil!!! Yes I know that oils don’t moisturize but I use it as a ‘moisturizing’ oil when styling my hair (alternating with my precious argan oil).
This is my approximate recipe:
20 ml coconut oil
20 ml argan oil
10 ml castor oil

Now, you don’t have to use the exact ratio I did: you can play around with it depending on what you want.
For example, if you want something heavier, add more castor oil. If your hair likes coconut oil, add more of it. And so on.
Please try it out and let me know.

Have a lovely week ahead!
HUGS.

this oil mix is superb! I used 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 1/2 teaspoon castor oil and 5 drops of pure argan oil. this mix is moisturizing and it really softened my hair. this mix is also great for maintaining straight hair after a roller set or any type of heat pass. it doesn’t cause reversion, yet it moisturizes. good job doc!
