How Fashion Can Transform Your Self-Confidence

We all joke about how much, in an ideal world, we’d all be able to work at the computer in our PJs all day. And while a day in PJs can be great and even therapeutic here and there, it can also make you feel a bit slouchy. Don’t you agree? There is something to the fact that we are more productive and feel better about ourselves when we feel like we look nice on the outside. It’s similar to the notion that, when we eat healthier, we feel better, inside and out. Being fashionable can transform us, too. You’ve likely seen it on the faces of those people who get the ambush makeovers. There’s no denying this phenomenon and, while you don’t have to aim to look perfect 24/7, you don’t want to ignore this either. Read on for ways in which fashion can transform your self-confidence. And then feel free to drop the mic!

Let’s Start With the Gym

Unless you’re Jillian Michaels or a UFC fighter, you likely dread going to the gym. It’s just a part of life. However, as we all know, there’s also no better feeling than that moment when you’re opening the door to leave, drenched in sweat. How do you get yourself there in the first place? There’s a lot to be said for finding a workout that you enjoy. Whether it’s a Pilates class or circuit training, as long as it gets you there, it’s a win. But another motivator is simply getting your workout clothes on and, preferably, ones that make you feel good about yourself. Lululemon seems to be the gold standard for women, but there are plenty of less expensive options (like Kate Hudson’s Fabletics, Old Navy, and Athleta) that are still likely to make you feel fashionable. If you feel stylishly dressed and simultaneous comfortable, this is going to transform your self-confidence. The best part is that this process is cyclical. Feeling stylish might help you get to the gym. Getting to the gym will help you feel fit and lean. Feeling fit and lean will lend itself to wanting to go the gym more. See what’s happening there? It’s all good.

Let Your Fashion Freak Flag Fly

Don’t be intimidated by fashion. If it feels good, wear it. We often hear people say things like, “Oh, I love that scarf or that belt but I could never pull that off.” Why not? Give it a try! Express yourself from head to toe with a pair of statement socks then go crazy with hats! Try out a pair of industrial boots with a dress. Wear that leather jacket paired with a tulle skirt. Are you a DIY’er? Think of yourself as Molly Ringwald’s character in Sixteen Candles and create new, fashion-forward clothes from things in your closet. Take that button down shirt of your husband’s and create a jumper or take that plaid skirt and turn it into a poncho. The more fashion risks you take, the more you’re likely to find your own fashion niche. And with this will surely come a sense of confidence you’ve likely never felt before. Don’t feel it right away? Fake it ‘til you make it!

Experiment With Accessories

Accessories are fabulous not only because they complete every outfit, but they also allow those of us who need to watch our pennies to look like we have a Kim Kardashian-esque fashion budget. The key is to buy the basics and expand on them with accessories. Women need to have those LBDs (little black dresses), a few shirts in some neutral colors, a couple pair of stylish jeans, and some shoes and boots that go with everything. From there, you can take a scarf, some statement jewelry, and/or a daring wide-brimmed hat and take an ordinary outfit to extraordinary. Sit back and enjoy the compliments as they roll in everywhere you go. How can this not improve self-confidence?

Self-confidence is a key component to happiness and success in life, and you won’t believe how much fashion can transform your whole outlook.
