Sunday Sound out – How long to relax hair, ApHogee 2-step and more…
Q1: How long to relax hair again? Can I retouch my hair 2 weeks after my last relaxer treatment?
A: NO. A two-week interval is too short! Relaxers act on the scalp and it is a good idea to wait a little to give your scalp time to heal. Secondly, relaxers break down protein bonds in the hair so it is also wise to give your hair time to heal. Many relaxer manufacturers say 4 to 6 weeks but I usually advise a minimum of 8 weeks. I think 12 – 14 weeks is an optimum interval and some ladies do go longer than this but it depends on how well you can manage your new growth. If your last relaxer left your hair severely under processed, you can do relax your hair after 4 weeks if you can not manage your hair but this should be a habit!!
Q2: ApHogee Two step or Two minute: what is the difference?
A: They have totally different ingredients and serve different purposes.
ApHogee two-step protein treatment is for severely damaged hair or hair that is breaking severely. It can only be used once in six weeks or more. The ingredients of Aphogee 2-step are Deionized Water, Hydrolyzed Animal Protein, Magnesium Sulfate, Citric Acid, Ethylene Urea, Dimethylol Urea, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Magnesium Carbonate, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance.
Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor is a much lighter protein treatment to be used weekly. It is for more moderate breakage. Its ingredients are: Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, Behenamidopropylamine Behenatem Stearolkonium Chloride, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cocodimonium Hydrolyzed Hair Keratin, Hydrolzed Mucopolysac Charides, Sodium Coco Collagen Amino Acids, Wheat Germ Fatty Acids, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Arachidonic Acid, Squalane, Avocado Oil, Acetimide MEA, Panthenol, Wheat Germ Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sulfur, Amodimethicone, Polyquaternium 10, Linoleamidopropyl PG Dimonium, Chloride Phosphate, Tallowtrimonium Chloride, Nonoxynol 10, Cocoyl Sarcosine, Sorbitol, Fragrance, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.
Q3: ApHogee two step protein treatment before or after relaxer, which is better?
A: It depends on what your hair needs: If you have very light or fine hair, it is a good idea to use the 2-step protein treatment before relaxing it to reduce relaxer damage. If your hair is damaged after relaxing it, you can use it afterwards. Don’t forget that the minimum interval between using the ApHogee 2-step is 6 weeks!!
Q4: What to use after ApHogee 2 minute reconstructor
A: ApHogee 2-minute reconstructor is a light-moderate protein conditioner: it is always advisable to use a moisturizing conditioner after a protein conditioner. However, it also depends on how your hair reacts. If you feel your hair is soft and not breaking, there is no need to use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards but if your hair still needs some softening, then you should.
